House with culture Hotel Marktgasse, Zurich

The Marktgasse Hotel is one of the oldest inns in the city of Zurich. The listed building was first mentioned in writing in 1291. After the careful renovation between 2013 and 2015, the many historical and protected elements, in connection with timeless, eclectic design and modern technical equipment, come into their own – a house with culture.

The focus of the lighting design is creating an inviting atmosphere for hotel guests, culinary enthusiasts, and lovers of the old town. The warm glow of modern glass chandeliers and wall lights greet the guest and lead them to the rooms via a winding, softly lit staircase. The accentuation of the room doors and corridors are dynamic and invites you to enter. In the rooms and in the salon, the lobby and the library, selected designer lights complement the individual, partly specially designed furnishings. In the restaurants and the bar, diffuse elements – such as playfully distributed glass ellipses and an artistically designed light wall– create pleasant general lighting. A ceiling field illuminated by means of a haunch creates a pleasant room atmosphere.

Discreetly built-in, adjustable spotlights set accents and gloss effects on tables and furnishings.
