View of Lake Zurich Swiss Re Klubhaus

The Klubhaus forms the end of the buildings at Swiss Re's headquarters. Surrounded by trees and with an unobstructed view of Lake Zurich, it is located in an idyllic setting. It serves as a cafeteria, restaurant, and representative guesthouse for clients.

The existing connecting corridor leads to the newly-designed foyer. The latter creates an overview of, and is the starting point for, access to all floors. The central open staircase leads to the main catering floor, which opens up freely on all sides to the façade’s surroundings. An open internal traffic flow around the kitchen and buffet centre allows visitors to choose between wide spaces and narrow, more intimate seating areas. It also maximises the amount of available natural light in these areas. On the upper floor, the patio – as an enclosed outdoor space – provides a new calm hub that draws the lines of sight inwards while at the same time opening up the roof as a usable space. This outdoor space will offer added benefits for using this floor in the summer months, especially in the evenings.

The unique ceiling combination of metal louvre and reflective framed boxes is diffusely backlit and completed with built-in spotlights. Highlights are created via decorative hanging luminaires. This establishes patterns, decorates the spaces, and defines the open areas.
