Light as a code data center, Biel

The compact volume of the new building develops over four floors plus a set-back roof structure. Due to the discretion of use, it gives a dark, abstract metal shell, which visually summarizes the building. The lighting concept of the facade is inspired by the technical use of the building for data storage. In the same way as cables or streams of information, lines of light run across the facade and every evening dissolve the compact cube into individual bodies and surfaces that appear mystical. By placing the light lines behind the facade made of perforated trapezoidal metal sheets, an attractive shine-through is achieved that seems to change in intensity depending on the position of the observer. The outside lighting of the surrounding area is guaranteed by spotlights integrated into the facade. The entire lighting concept optimally responds to the surroundings. Hence, the façade staging towards the station presents itself as an attractive eye-catcher and is reserved on the sides towards the residential areas.
